Our Upper Kenai Half day trip is a placid 4 hour float that meanders along the top 7 miles of the Kenai River from the outlet of Kenai Lake downstream to Sportsman’s, across from the confluence with the Russian River. There are a few sets of small rapids along this trip and the scenery is beautiful. From the boat we target rainbow trout and dolly varden using both fly and spin methods. Additionally, depending on the time of season, we can also include a brief introduction to salmon fishing on this trip.
The Upper Kenai Half day trip is our best value and a great trip for families. It serves as a general introduction to Kenai River fishing and is an excellent trip for beginners. Also, it is a great trip for anyone that just wants to get dialed in to fishing the area on their own and needs a quick orientation on fishing both the Kenai River and other local waters.
Our specialty! This full day trip is an 8 hour adventure anywhere on the entirety of the Upper Kenai River, from the outlet of Kenai Lake downstream to the outlet of Skilak Lake. We will take your trip goals, the time of season, and local conditions into account to decide which stretch of the 17 mile Upper Kenai River your trip will include.
We have greater flexibility on the Upper Kenai full day trip to be more species-specific; we can target rainbow trout and dolly varden using fly and spin techniques both from the boat and wading from shore, as well as target salmon species when available.
This trip is great for both beginners and experienced anglers. We can tailor your trip to your wishes, just let us know what you’d really like to focus your time on.
We offer an 8 hour full day trip on the Middle Kenai River during August and September to target beautiful trophy rainbow trout. Our Middle Kenai trip is generally a fly fishing trip, and is an interesting change of scenery from the pristine Upper Kenai as you get to float through private property on the Middle. The Kenai River below Skilak Lake is not a drift-only area, so motor access is allowed in this fishery.
We recommend the Middle River trip to our experienced anglers for a single day trip and also to our beginners as a second or third trip in a multi-day package. There is a good chance to hook a fish of a lifetime on this section of river and you want to know how to land it.
Cooper Landing is lovely in winter! Come join us for an afternoon soaking bait on Kenai Lake. We offer a 4 hour trip from the warmth of our cozy ice hut to target lake trout and rainbow trout.
Ice fishing trips are available January-April dependening on weather and ice conditions.
This is a great trip for folks checking out Alaska in winter. There are so many other awesome winter activities in Cooper Landing as well as all over Alaska! If you are interested in putting a winter trip together, we are happy to make some great recommendations.

Shared vs. Private Trips
Shared trips are priced per seat for 1-4 seats in the boat (we can accomodate 5 on Upper Kenai Half day). Shared trips are great for folks on a budget that don’t mind meeting new fishing friends, and families that fill all the seats in the boat anyway.
Should I reserve a shared trip?
Below are some good reasons to book a shared trip:
- You look forward to making new friends on the trip (some folks have become lifelong friends after meeting on one of our trips)
- You are a group of 4 or 5.
- You enjoy the floating experience as much as the fishing experience.
- You are booking a corporate team building trip.
- You are on a budget.
Private trips provide exclusive use of our drift boat for groups of one or two people. We are able to provide more one-on-one instruction and technique coaching on these trips. Private trips also provide the most space for expert anglers using advanced casting techniques.
Should I reserve a private trip?
Below are some good reasons to book a private trip:
- You don’t want to hear some guy you just met talk all day (besides John, of course).
- You are on your honeymoon or celebrating your anniversary.
- You are taking out your best client to close the business deal.
- You want to get the most attention, knowledge and instruction possible from your guide.
- Budget doesn’t matter.
